Question
Download Solution PDFThe magnetic potential energy stored in a certain inductor is 25 mJ, when the current in the inductor is 60 mA. This inductor is of inductance
Answer (Detailed Solution Below)
Detailed Solution
Download Solution PDFConcept:
In most electronic circuits inductor is used to save magnetic energy when electricity is passed through it. Therefore, Inductors are used as energy storage devices.
Energy stored in inductor when current I flows through it is
\(U = \frac{1}{2}L{I^2}\)
where L is the inductance of the inductor.
Calculation:
Magnetic potential energy, U = 25mJ
Current in the inductor = 60 mA
Energy stored in inductor
\(U = \frac{1}{2}L{I^2}\)
25 × 10-3 = \(\frac{1}{2}\) × L × (60 × 10-3)2
\(L = \frac{{25 \times 2 \times {{10}^6} \times {{10}^{ - 3}}}}{{3600}}\)
\( = \frac{{500}}{{36}}\)
= 13.89 H
