Question
Download Solution PDFTwo trains start at the same time from two stations and proceed toward each other at the speed of 40 km/h and 45 km/h, respectively. When they meet, it is found that one train has travelled 20 km more than the other. Find the distance between the two stations.
Answer (Detailed Solution Below)
Detailed Solution
Download Solution PDFGiven:
Speed of train 1 = 40 km/h,
Speed of train 2 = 45 km/h,
Difference in distance = 20 km
Concept:
Relative speed when moving towards each other = Speed1 + Speed2,
Time = Distance/Speed
Calculation:
⇒ Time taken to meet = Difference in distance/Difference in speeds = 20 km/5 km/h = 4 hours
⇒ Distance between the stations = (Speed of train 1 + Speed of train 2) × Time = (40 + 45) km/h × 4 hours = 340 km
Hence, the distance between the two stations is 340 km.
