Given:

Length of Train 1 = 310 m

Length of Train 2 = 330 m

Distance between trains = 160 m

Speed of Train 1 = 130 km/h

Speed of Train 2 = 158 km/h

Formula Used:

Relative Speed when two objects move towards each other = Speed of Train 1 + Speed of Train 2

Time = Total distance / Relative Speed

Calculation:

Convert speeds from km/h to m/s:

Speed of Train 1 in m/s = 130 × (1000/3600)

Speed of Train 1 in m/s = 130 × (5/18)

Speed of Train 1 in m/s = 36.11 m/s

Speed of Train 2 in m/s = 158 × (1000/3600)

Speed of Train 2 in m/s = 158 × (5/18)

Speed of Train 2 in m/s = 43.89 m/s

Relative Speed = 36.11 + 43.89

Relative Speed = 80 m/s

Total distance to be covered = Length of Train 1 + Length of Train 2 + Distance between trains

Total distance = 310 + 330 + 160

Total distance = 800 m

Time = Total distance / Relative Speed

Time = 800 / 80

⇒ Time = 10 seconds

The correct answer is option 4.
