CONCEPT:
- Boiling: The change of a liquid to its gaseous state upon heating at a constant temperature is called boiling.
- On heating the liquid, the kinetic energy of molecules increases.
- Once they acquire enough kinetic energy to overcome the intermolecular forces, the molecules escape from the liquid and thus turning into gas.
- This temperature at which the vapour pressure of a liquid equals the pressure surrounding the liquid and liquid converts to gas is known as the Boiling point of that liquid.
EXPLANATION:
- Boling point: It is the process of conversion of liquid into gas when it is heated from its boiling point.
- Dependence of Boiling point
- The boiling point is ∝ Temperature
- The boiling point is ∝ the atmospheric pressure.
- The boiling point is ∝ the Vapour pressure of the liquid.
- The boiling point of a liquid is increased by increasing pressure.
Additional Information
- Atmospheric Pressure: It is also known as barometric pressure, which is used to measure the pressure of the atmosphere within the earth.
