Social Science is a branch of science that deals with human behaviour and social relationships, which rely primarily on empirical approaches. A source in social science can be referred to as something which tells the origin of an object or an event. For example, the Taj Mahal says a lot about Shahjahan. There are two types of sources in social science:

• Primary Source: For example, coins, rivers, forts, the Constitution of India, a painting by Rabindranath Tagore, James Mill's A History of British India etc. (These are the sources created when the event had taken place. )
• Secondary Source: These are sources that are derived from the primary source after some analysis. For example, biographies, dissertation, indexes, C.A. Bayly's An Illustrated History of Modern India (this book was published in 1991, that is, the time after modern history) etc.

Hence, C.A. Bayly's An Illustrated History of Modern India is an example of a secondary source.
