Unlike every other state, the West Bengal state recruits the administrative officers for the state government department. The notifications are out for exams. All the candidates who aim for joining the state administrative services must get ready!

The WBCS Exam too is conducted in three tiers: Prelims, Mains & Interview. And a total of six papers in mains for total merit! You need to qualify all the tiers. WBCS Persian Syllabus

Persian is a different language and quite uncommon in India. The syllabus has been officially issued by the West Bengal Service Commission for the WB PCS exam. Candidates can check below:-

Paper 1

(a) Persian linguistics (Persian and Indo-European family of languages; Aryan or Indo_Iranian branch, evolution of Persian language, Old Persian, Avestan language, Middle Persian or Pahlavi, Modern Persian, Iranian dialects, Persian influence on Indian languages)

(b) Persian grammar

(c) Translation from Persian into English

(d) Translation from English into Persian

(e) Persian rhetoric and prosody.

Paper 2

(a) History of Persian literature (Origin of Persian poetry, Early poets, Development of poetic forms-

qasida, ghazal, masnavi, etc. Growth of poetic themes or trends epic, romantic, mystical, philosophical, ethical, etc. Survey of prose-works-historical, mystical, ethical, biographical, etc. Literary progress in different periods of Iranian history. Contributions of eminent poets and writers. Modern poetry, Modern prose, Indo-Persian literature)

(b) Texts (meant for general acquaintance and not for minute study) :

  • (1) Shahnama of Firdausi
  • (2) Chahar Maqala of Nizami Aruzi
  • (3) Qasaid-i-Khaqani
  • (4) Diwan-i-Hafiz
  • (5) Masnavi of Jalaluddin Rumi
  • (6) Naldaman of Fayzi.

WBCS Persian Exam Pattern

The WBCS Prelims Exam is just a qualifying exam whose marks are not kept in account.

For the WBCS Mains exam:

  • All the papers are important and conducted in descriptive & MCQ mode.
  • Total of six papers out of two are optional for the chosen subject.

Below is the complete exam pattern of the WBCS Persian optional subject:-

  • There will be two optional papers
    • Paper 1 – Persian Paper
    • Paper 2- Persian Paper
  • Both of these optional papers will be of the maximum marks of 200 marks each with a duration of 3 hours each and subjective in nature.

WBCS Persian Syllabus FAQs

There is a wide list of the subjects issued by the conducting body from which the available candidates can choose their section of interest. More than 20 subjects are available.

No, Persian is not a compulsory language subject. There are few subjects which are both optional and compulsory and candidates are free to choose them. Bengali, hindi, nepali, urdu, sandali are the subjects.
