Detailed Solution
Download Solution PDFExplanation:
A two-stroke engine has three ports:
- Suction Port: It is the port through which the engine gets the fuel. It is generally connected to the carburetor in the case of an SI engine.
- Exhaust Port: It is the port through which the scavenging of gases takes place. This port is covered 60 deg before BDC and uncovered 60 deg after BDC.
- Transfer Port: The transfer port is located inside the engine, it is used for transferring the charge from the crankcase to the cylinder head portion through the descending piston. Generally, this port is uncovered 50 deg before BDC and covered 50 deg after BDC.
In two-stroke engines, the pressure of charge inducted through the inlet port inside the during the intake stroke is below atmospheric pressure.
