Answer (Detailed Solution Below)
Detailed Solution

Ideal gas-refrigeration cycle works on reversed Brayton (or) Joule cycle.
Concept:
Air refrigeration systems:
- Air refrigeration systems belong to the class of gas cycle refrigeration systems, in which a gas is used as the working fluid
- The gas does not undergo any phase change during the cycle, consequently, all the internal heat transfer processes are sensible heat transfer processes.
- The air refrigeration system works on the reverse Joule cycle or reverse Brayton cycle or Bell-Coleman Cycle.
- First air is compressed and then heat removed, this air is then expanded to a lower temperature than before it was compressed.
- Work must be taken out of the air during the expansion, otherwise, the entropy would increase.
Important Points
- Gas Turbine works on Joule Cycle.
- Steam Engines works on Rankine Cycle.
- Spark ignition (SI) engines or petrol engines work on Otto Cycle.
- Carnot cycle is the most efficient heat engine cycle.
- Refrigerator and AC work on vapour compression cycle.
