Given:

The average age of a family of six members is 30 years

Calculation:

Total age of the 6-member family now = (30 × 6) = 180

Total age of the family if we exclude twins of age 10 years = (180 - 20) = 160

Now, before 10 years total age of the 4-member family = 160 - (4 × 10) = 120

So, before 10 years average age of the 4-member family = (120/4) = 30 years

∴ The correct answer is 30 years
