Question
Download Solution PDFIn triangle ABC, the bisector of angle BAC cuts the side BC at D. If AB = 10 cm, and AC = 14 cm then what is BD : BC ?
Answer (Detailed Solution Below)
Detailed Solution
Download Solution PDFGiven:
AB = 10 cm, and AC = 14 cm
Concept used:
The angle bisector of a triangle divides the opposite side into two parts proportional to the other two sides of the triangle.
Calculation:
According to the concept,
AB/AC = BD/DC
⇒ 10/14 = BD/DC
⇒ 5/7 = BD/DC
So, BD : DC = 5 : 7
Now, BC = 5 + 7
⇒ 12
So, BD : BC = 5 : 12
∴ The required answer is 5 : 12.
