Crowning of pulley:
A crowned pulley is a pulley that has a slight hump in the middle, tapering off ever so slightly towards either edge.
- The rim of the pulley of a flat belt drive is slightly crowned to prevent the slipping off the belt from the pulley.
- The crowning can be in the form of a conical surface or a convex surface.
- Generally, if a pulley is made up of two equal cones or convex surface, the belt will tend to climb on the slope and will run with its centre line on the mid-plane of the pulley.
