The speed of work is inversely proportional to the time taken to complete the work.
If A and B work together for a while and then only B continues,
we can subtract the work done by both to find out the remaining work for B.
Calculation:
⇒ Work done by A in a day = 1/18
⇒ Work done by B in a day = 1/36
⇒ Work done by A and B in a day = 1/18 + 1/36 = 1/12
⇒ Work done by A and B in 8 days = 8/12 = 2/3
⇒ Remaining work = 1 - 2/3 = 1/3
⇒ Time taken by B to complete the remaining work = (1/3) / (1/36) = 12 days
Hence, B will take 12 days to complete the rest of the work.
