Axiom-4 Mission Carrying Indian Astronaut Shubhanshu Shukla To Launch On June 19, Confirms ISRO

Earlier, the launch was scheduled for May 29. Which later got changed to June 8.

The Axiom-4 mission, in which Group Captain Shubhanshu Shukla will go to space, is now likely to get launched on June 19, said ISRO. The Times of India quoted ISRO stating, “Axiom Space informed that they were working closely with NASA to assess the pressure anomaly in the Zvezda Service Module onboard the International Space Station (ISS). Axiom Space is now targeting June 19, 2025, for the launch of the Ax-04 mission.”

The mission is a joint effort involving NASA (National Aeronautics and Space Administration), ISRO (Indian Space Research Organisation), Axiom Space, and SpaceX.

Union Minister Jitendra Singh mentioned on his X handle that, “Launch date of the Axiom-4 mission carrying Indian astronaut Shubhanshu Shukla to the International Space Station is, as of now, rescheduled for June 19, 2025. Also, Space X team has confirmed that all the issues, that led to earlier postponement of the launch, have been duly addressed.”

However, there is no official announcement made regarding the date of launch by Axiom Space or NASA. Earlier, the launch was scheduled for May 29. Which later got changed to June 8.

The launch was postponed again by a day to June 9 and then rescheduled for June 10. According to ISRO, this postponement was because of a delay in the preparedness of the Falcon-9 vehicle for the launch. The launch on June 10 got rescheduled due to unfavourable weather conditions.

Who Is Shubhanshu Shukla?

Group Captain Shubhanshu Shukla is an Indian Air Force Test Pilot and Astronaut. Shukla, who is a native of Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, completed his schooling at the City Montessori School. He was deeply inspired by the 1999 Kargil War, after which he decided to apply for the UPSC, and he eventually cleared it. He completed his military training and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science from the National Defence Academy in 2005.

He was then selected for the flying branch and underwent training at the Indian Air Force Academy. In June 2006, he was commissioned into the Fighter stream of the Indian Air Force as a Flying Officer. He is a combat leader and seasoned test pilot with about 2,000 hours of flying experience across various aircrafts.
