The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has introduced a new feature for tired travellers, a pod hotel at the New Delhi Metro station. This hotel is located at the busy point where the Yellow Line and the Airport Express Line meet. It is a small, comfortable space designed for passengers to rest, relax and take a break from hustle and bustle of the city.
This hotel covers an area of 3,000 square meters. It has comfortable bunk beds, digital lockers, a co-working space, a games area and even a small theatre. To ensure safety and comfort, there is a separate dorm and washrooms for women. This is a great place to relax, reduce stress, and enjoy an affordable, hassle-free stay. These pods are perfect for passengers who have long layovers or those who want to take a short break before continuing their journey.
Affordable and Convenient
The new pod hotel is a cost-effective and practical alternative to regular hotels. The starting cost of a sleeping pod is just Rs 400. It follows the global trend of capsule hotels that can be found in major transport hubs. The aim is to offer a comfortable place for travelers to rest without having to leave the station.

DMRC’s Plan to Improve Services and Create New Revenue
This new development is part of DMRC’s plan to earn more money and improve services for passengers. Some metro stations, like Malviya Nagar, Punjabi Bagh, Azadpur, and Faridabad Sector 20B, are being turned into shopping areas with stores and food courts. Also, a banquet hall has been set up at Noida Electronic City Metro Station, making the metro stations useful for more than just travel.
DMRC’s Plan for Commercial Growth at Metro Stations
DMRC has identified key areas for future commercial development. According to their plans:
- Kohat Enclave will become a commercial zone with plenty of parking.
- Azadpur will have 21,000 square meters of office and retail space built.
- Mohan Estate will use 8,900 square meters for industrial purposes.
- Anand Vihar Metro Station will gain 4,100 square meters of retail space.
To increase revenue and make the metro experience better for passengers, DMRC plans to combine commercial spaces, hotels, and metro services. The goal is to create a self-sustaining system that doesn’t depend too much on government funding.
The opening of the pod hotel will change New Delhi Metro Station. It will no longer just be a place for travel, but a spot where passengers can rest, relax, and continue their journey with ease.
