The Unified payment interface has possibly suffered a massive outage. Users have been continuously showcasing their concerns over social media and outage tracking platforms . Down Detector have revealed that popular applications like Paytm, Phone Pe and Google Pay are not working currently leaving users at the helm of payments jilted.
The issue has been causing chaos for many who rely on Digital payments solely for their way around. The outage being tracked by real time monitoring websites showcases how it seems to have become a major headache for the users.

Down Detector has been swamped with a sharp increase in complaints, this platform specifically handles complaints of websites going down. As per the website there have been 1200 reports of the digital platforms not working properly. The outage has affected users across different platforms indicating a wider issue with the UPI infrastructure.
No Official Word On the Matter
The exact reason for the outage has not been revealed as of yet. There has been no official announcement from NPCI or UPI platforms. Users are being advised to keep alternative payment methods in hand and carry cash always to ensure that such occurrences do not cause issues in the daily run.
Why It Matters
Unified Payments Interface is a popular instant payment system that has been developed by the National Payments Corporation of India. (NPCI) operates under the supervision of Reserve Bank of India. The Applications offer users with easy accessibility and offer functions such as money transfer, digital payments through mobile applications without any charges from NPCI.
Before this outage the most significant outage of the platform was witnessed on March 26th, during that incident users were unable to access the services for 2 to 3 hours. At that time the difficulties were attributed to technical glitches that temporarily affected the system. Both users as well as merchants faced extensive issues at that time as well. this disrupted the smooth transactions that UPI is known for.
Beyond that in a recent Update on April 8, National Payments Corporation of India Issued a Notice stating that the feature that allows users to make payments by scanning QR codes would not be allowed in the instances of international payments only . This step was meant to ensure that the app used to make payments can correctly identify the payer while the transaction goes through. No changes was made to the limits of the type of transactions including those done using QR codes for payments.
