Former Pakistani captain Babar Azam has been signed by the Australian cricket franchise, Sydney Sixers, for their upcoming season. This has been a living milestone for Pakistan cricket as none of Pakistan’s players had made it to any Australian franchise before. But it is still unknown how much Babar would received from the franchise. As per League rules, each club can sign one international recruit ahead of the BBL 15 Draft, which is set to be held next Thursday, June 19.
“It’s an exciting opportunity to play in one of the world’s best T20 leagues and to be a part of such a successful and respected franchise. I’m looking forward to contributing to the team’s success, building a strong connection with the fans, and sharing this experience with my friends, family and supporters at home in Pakistan,” said Azam.

How Much Will Babar Get?
The Sydney Sixers, like other Big Bash League (BBL) teams, operates under a salary cap, which is currently AUD 3 million for their regular 18-man roster. In addition to this cap, the team can sign two players outside of it at a standard AU$50,000 deal. The highest-paid overseas men’s player in the league will command AU$420,000 in the draft. The Sixers also have to adhere to minimum pay for their top players, including AU$200,000 for their top-six men’s earners and AU$50,000 for their top-five female players. Considering Babar’s resume in T20 cricket and his recent performance in Pakistan’s franchise league, the PSL, Sydney Sixers might not exhaust all of their limit on Babar i.e, he wil received a salary below AU$ 420,000.
Babar’s Performance in PSL
In PSL 2025, Babar Azam has had a mixed performance. While he is a consistent performer and has been a leading run-scorer in the PSL in the past, his 2025 season hasn’t been as strong. He has struggled to find his rhythm and post big scores, with his average being below his usual PSL average. However, he has also had some flashes of form, including a 53* against Islamabad United. He has scored a total of 288 runs in 10 matches and stands at the 9th spot.
