Nicholas Pooran, recognized globally as one of the top T20 batters, has been named captain of MI New York for the upcoming 2025 season of Major League Cricket (MLC). The announcement comes shortly after the 29-year-old from Trinidad officially announced his retirement from international cricket with the West Indies. Pooran replaced T20 giant, Kieron Pollard from leadership.

Pooran’s Stats
During his international career, Pooran represented the West Indies in 167 matches across all formats, including a record 106 T20 Internationals – the most by any West Indian player. He bows out as the team’s highest run-scorer in T20Is, finishing with 2,275 runs.
Pooran had already made himself unavailable for the current T20I series against England, choosing to rest after a grueling IPL 2025 season with the Lucknow Super Giants. His form in 2024 was exceptional, as he set a new benchmark by hitting 170 sixes in a calendar year a world record. He carried that momentum into IPL 2025, where he scored 524 runs at a phenomenal strike rate of 196.25, registering five fifties.
The left-hander last appeared in West Indies colors during a T20I against Bangladesh in December 2024. His last ODI came in July 2023, and he never featured in Test cricket for the Caribbean side.
