June 12 will be seen as one of the darkest days in Indian history. According to reports, around 242 people have lost their lives in an Air India plane crash that took place at Ahmedabad. The flight took off from Ahmedabad Airport and was going towards London Gatwick Airport. The cricketing world also paid their respects as the iconic Lord’s stadium, which was hosting the WTC Finals 2025 between Australia and South Africa, went silent for one minute. Also, the opening pair for the Third day, Australia’s Mitchell Starc and Nathan Lyon, were at the crease. Players from both teams were seen wearing black armbands as well.

Day 3 of the WTC finals was seen to be probably the second last day of the match as Australia was just 2 wickets away from an all-out with Mitchell Starc and Nathan Lyon on the crease. This initiative by people at higher offices of power in cricket states that cricket is more than a sport to entertain people and generate revenue. In the first innings, after opting to bowl first, the Proteas wrapped up the Aussie innings on just 212 runs. But the Australian Speedsters, Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood, and Pat Cummins trembled the Proteas’ innings on just 138 runs, with skipper Cummins leading the team with 6 wickets.
The flight from Ahmedabad took off from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Airport and, after just minutes in the air, lost contact with the Air Traffic Controller (ATC). Soon after which it was discovered that the plane had crashed near the Meghani area of the city, sending a massive plume of Black smoke into the air.
