The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has apparently begun searching for standbys as doubts are high regarding the future of the 2025 Asia Cup. The competition, scheduled for September and to be held by India, is coming under huge question marks after increased tensions between India and Pakistan. The tensions grew after a horrific terrorist attack in Kashmir that cost several civilian lives and spurred a subsequent military confrontation between the two countries.
BCCI Remains Silent
While the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) had previously sanctioned a hybrid solution that allowed Pakistan to play in a neutral venue but there has been no recent word from the BCCI on the final plan for the event. This lack of word has made the PCB search for alternate arrangements.
PCB Exploring A Tri-Nation Series
As per a PTI report, the PCB has also started talks with the Afghanistan Cricket Board and the UAE authorities to arrange a tri-nation series, which would take place in the UAE if the Asia Cup were to be cancelled. The report also says that informal talks have already started between the concerned boards.
“Asia Cup Unlikely To Be Held In India”
“With the Asia Cup now unlikely to be held in India as originally planned in September due to the simmering relations between Pakistan and India, the PCB is working on another tri-series proposal,” a well-informed source in PCB told the news agency.
Mohsin Naqvi To Have A Meeting
Sources validated that PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi, who is also the president of the ACC, is set to have a decisive meeting shortly to gauge the feasibility of the Asia Cup and determine the future course of action.
