Who Is Responsible For Bengaluru Stampede? Here’s What Led To The Tragedy During RCB Victory Celebrations

The Bengaluru Stampede killed a minimum of 11 people and injured more than 30 in the celebrations of Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) winning the IPL 2025.

A gigantic tragedy escalated outside Bengaluru’s M Chinnaswamy Stadium on Wednesday as a stampede-like situation killed a minimum of 11 people and injured more than 30 in the celebrations of Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) winning the IPL 2025. What would otherwise have been a joyous moment became a nightmare because of glaring crowd management and coordination lapses.

Inadequate Security Deployment and Barricading

Crowd management was ostensibly short of barricades and understaffed security personnel, considering the size of the crowd present. According to reports, the authorities had not expected so many people to show up and had not made any serious preparations to manage the entry of the attendees.

Mismanagement Of Entry

One of the main causes of the stampede was the lack of coordination in gate entry. With gates opening one at a time and without advance public announcement, hordes of people streamed to whichever gate opened, generating a fatal push. Most of the visitors were left in confusion as to how to gain entry into the venue, with no public announcement or visible signs to offer directions.

Confusion Over Event Schedule And Venue Logistics

Most fans had come anticipating a celebratory atmosphere like any other cricket match but were left confused because of the uncertainty of how the event was to proceed and the admittance process. Some conflicting messages on whether or not to celebrate at Vidhana Soudha alone or at the stadium as well made the crowds move back and forth between the two places.

A few police personnel who were deployed near the stadium reportedly did not have a proper idea of the entire schedule for the day. Although a formal felicitation was underway at Vidhana Soudha, the situation at the stadium was still unorganized. In reports from Deccan Herald, the lack of a coordinated communications plan ensured that ground staff were left to handle crowds without proper information and guidance.

Emergency Services Overwhelmed

Adding to the catastrophe was a glaring absence of ambulances at both Vidhana Soudha and Chinnaswamy Stadium when the crisis deepened. Emergency services faltered in response, thus delaying relief further to those hurt in the crowd push.

Several Factors Contributed

Besides the poor organization and security failures, the sudden release of free passes at the eleventh hour, the insufficient seating capacity, confused entry procedures, and miscommunication regarding the parade route all contributed to the tragic stampede.
