With rapid urban development transforming Delhi and its surrounding regions, a significant rise in population has followed, particularly in areas like Noida. In response to growing concerns over pedestrain safety amid increasing traffic and congestion, the Noida Authority is set to roll out a series of measures in key areas. According to officials, focused interventions will be implemented on roads in Sector 62, Sector 63, and Chhijarsi village, officials stated on Sunday.
As quoted by Hindustan Times, Vijay Rawal, General Manager of Noida Authority, stated that “This project is part of the authority’s plan to develop a 3.5-kilometre-long model mobility corridor between Sector 62 roundabout and Mamura trisection. The corridor aims to ease traffic bottlenecks in the area. A tender was issued earlier this year for road widening and improvement works, and four agencies have reportedly shown interest.”
The road in Sector 63, located alongside the Delhi-Meerut Expressway, will soon undergo widening and landscaping up to the Chhijarsi intersection. A tender valued at Rs 6.5 crore has been issued, and the Noida authority will hire a contractor for the project, officials stated. This project will solve the traffic-related issue and boost connectivity.
Improvements will also be made along footpaths and at the intersections connecting Chhijarsi with the Sector 62 Model Town roundabout, officials said. They added that by expanding the road by one metre on each side near Chhijarsi, the road Sector 63 will be widened.
Rawal also mentioned, “The proposed skywalk will have a circumference of around 400 metres and will be covered with an iron sheet to protect pedestrians from the sun and rain.”
In addition, the authority plans to construct a skywalk around Sector 62 to help thousands of pedestrians using National Highway-9 (Delhi-Meerut Expressway). The skywalk, shaped like a roundabout, will have escalators in two areas on the Noida side and lifts in the other two areas on the NH-9 side, helping people to ensure smooth access between the expressway and the metro. According to officials, the finalised plans and DPR for the structure will cost about Rs 40 crore to build.
