Sonam Raghuvanshi, a woman from Indore, was arrested on Monday for planning the murder of her husband, Raja Raghuvanshi, during their honeymoon. The police caught her at ‘kashi Dhaba’ on the Varanasi-Ghazipur main road, according to Ghazipur Superintendent of Police Iraz Raja.
According to a report by Hindustan Times, at the one-stop center in Ghazipur, staff members told that Sonam has denied the murder charges.
“After she woke up later in the afternoon, she said she was kidnapped and said she did not kill anyone,” said a staffer, requesting anonymity.
Her family also stood by her. Her father, Devi Singh Raghuvanshi, said, “My daughter is innocent. I have trust in my daughter. She cannot do this (kill her husband)… They got married with the consent of both families…My daughter came to a dhaba in Ghazipur last night and she called her brother… Police went to the dhaba, and she was taken from there.”
Sonam Accused of Planning Husband’s Murder in Meghalaya
Meghalaya’s top police officer, I Nongrang, said that Sonam planned the murder of her husband in the beautiful town of Sohra, in the northeast state of Meghalaya. He also shared shocking details of the crime, which led to a major police search across three states.
According to police, Raja Raghuvanshi was killed by men who were allegedly hired by Sonam. After the murder, she went missing and later showed up in Ghazipur, Uttar Pradesh. She surrendered at the Nandganj police station after three attackers: Raj Singh Kushwaha (21), Akash Rajput (19), and Vishal Singh Chauhan (22) were arrested during night raids.
East Khasi Hills SP Vivek Syiem shared details at a press conference in Shillong about the arrests made in the case.
“The first person arrested was Rajput from Lalitpur in UP. The second was Chauhan from Indore in Madhya Pradesh. The third was Kushwaha, also from Indore,” he said.
Sonam Taken into Custody
Officials said that Sonam was taken into custody by the Meghalaya Police around 6:30 pm. The legal process to bring her to Meghalaya is now in progress.
The three men arrested in Madhya Pradesh were sent to Meghalaya on a seven-day transit remand by a district court in Indore.
Raja Raghuvanshi’s body was found on June 2 in a deep gorge near Weisawdong Falls in East Khasi Hills district. He had been missing for 10 days.
Raja and Sonam got married on May 11 in Indore and went to Meghalaya for their honeymoon. They went missing on May 23, just a few hours after checking out of a homestay in Nongriat village, which is about 20 km from where his body was found.
His family identified his body by a unique tattoo on his right hand. At the scene, police also found a woman’s white shirt, a strip of medicine, part of a mobile phone’s LCD screen, and a smartwatch.
