‘Air India Didn’t Inform Us About Anything’: Father Of Cabin Crew Member Nganthoy Sharma Killed In Ahmedabad Plane Crash

The father of Nganthoy Sharma Kongbralatpam, who lost her life in the Ahmedabad plane crash said that he got information about the accident and relief and rescue operations only through social media.

The AI-171 Boeing Dreamliner 787-8 aircraft, which was scheduled to fly to Gatwick, London, crashed shortly after taking off from Ahmedabad International Airport on Thursday. The father of Nganthoy Sharma Kongbralatpam, who lost her life in the Ahmedabad plane crash, says that he has not received any help from either Air India or the state government after his daughter’s death. He also said that he got information about the accident and relief, and rescue operations only through social media.

“Air India has not informed us of anything. I got the information only through social media, like the crash, and other things. I got information on that, but after that, what was to be done or what would happen, we were not told. No one from Air India came to our house to tell about it, or even from the government,” the victim’s father, Kongrailatpam Nandesh Kumar Sharma, said.

21-year-old Nganthoi Sharma Kongbrailatpam was part of the cabin crew in Air India flight AI 171, a Boeing 787 Dreamliner, which crashed near Ahmedabad airport yesterday. The flight had 242 people on board, with the company confirming the death of 241 of them, as one British national survived the crash.

Breaking down in front of journalists, he demanded answers from the state government on whether they will assist the families affected. “I just want the government should say something, take care of the family. Now that she (his daughter) is gone, she is gone. I only have 3 daughters. So what will I say? I have no words,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Tata Group has announced financial assistance of Rs 1 crore to the families of those who lost their lives and the injured in the accident. A health assistance team sent by Air India also reached Ahmedabad yesterday. Air India informed that at the time of the accident, there were 242 passengers on board the plane, including 169 Indians, 53 British, seven Portuguese, and one Canadian citizen.

Soon after take-off, the plane fell to the ground outside the airport boundary as soon as it took off from runway 23. An official said that black smoke was seen rising from the spot. Dense smoke was easily visible at the accident site.

Earlier, Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a review meeting with officials regarding the Air India accident at Ahmedabad airport. He also inspected the spot and assessed the situation there.
