On June 12, 2025, an Air India Boeing 787 Dreamliner (AI 171) crashed in the Meghani Nagar area of Ahmedabad. All passengers who were on board the aircraft lost their lives, except for one. The plane was carrying 169 Indians, 53 British nationals, 7 Portuguese, and 1 Canadian citizen. In the incident, several medical students present at the BJ Medical College campus, including four MBBS students and a doctor’s wife, also died.
DGCA Team At The Site
Immediately after the plane crash, the DGCA requested a report from the field office. If necessary, they also issue a ‘Show Cause Notice’ to the airline. The DGCA sometimes forms an investigation team at the preliminary level to collect facts. Yesterday, the DGCA also issued an order regarding the Air India Dreamliner.
NSG Team At The Site
The NSG team has been at the incident site since Friday morning. This team also recovered the black box. Today, this team is still in the process of examining the site and is engaged in the investigation along with other agencies.
News From NIA Sources
The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has denied any suspicion of conspiracy or criminal collusion in the Air India flight crash that occurred near Ahmedabad airport on June 12. According to sources, an NIA team visited the accident site and ruled out any foul play with the help of local police. The Gujarat ATS is also in action following the incident.
On Friday, the Gujarat ATS recovered the DVR (Digital Video Recorder) of CCTV cameras from the debris adjacent to B.J. Medical College’s hostel. An ATS officer informed the media, “This DVR was found in the debris. The FSL (Forensic Science Lab) team will arrive here soon.” The DVR is an electronic device that records and stores video footage from CCTV cameras.
Role Of The Forensic Team
A team of forensic experts was also present at the Gandhinagar site to collect evidence. The nine-member team was there to investigate the area. Samples have been sent to the lab. The Gujarat ATS was also present.
The Secrets Of Blackbox
The black box has been recovered. The black box is located at the tail of the aircraft. The identification of the black box was made on the first day, but it was recovered on Friday. The black box actually consists of two highly durable devices in different shades of orange, designed to withstand extreme pressure, fire, and impact during any aircraft accident. Every commercial aircraft has two black boxes:
Flight Data Recorder (FDR) – this records the aircraft’s altitude, speed, engine power, flight direction, and other technical parameters.
Cockpit Voice Recorder (CVR) – this records the pilots’ conversations, radio messages, warning signals, and other sounds that are made inside the cockpit.
These recordings will also reveal whether the pilots issued a ‘Mayday call’ (emergency message), if any attempt was made to control the aircraft, or if they received any warning of a technical failure.
